Description
The USS Midway aircraft carrier began construction in 1943, was launched in 1945, and entered service one month after Japan surrendered. It was the first U.S. warship named after Midway Island, with the hull number CV-41, to commemorate the battle that turned the tide of the Pacific War. Famous naval battle. The USS Midway participated in many military operations such as the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Iran Hostage Crisis and the Gulf War. It was decommissioned in 1992 and deregistered in 1997. It was converted into a museum ship in San Diego in 2003 and remains today.
