Deployed across all German military branches throughout the conflict—from the Eastern Front to North Africa, Italy, and France—the standard model's limited off-road performance led to the development of the half-track variant. Between 1942 and 1944, 1,740 vehicles were converted to Maultier configuration for improved cross-country mobility.
