Description
The Jimmy Carter, the third and final submarine of the Seawolf class, was launched in June 2004 and commissioned in February 2005. The submarine is roughly 30 m longer than the other two ships of her class due to the insertion of a section known as the Multi-Mission Platform (MMP), which is the unique feature of the Jimmy Carter. MMP provides enhanced payload capabilities, enabling the submarine to accommodate the advanced technology required to develop and test a new generation of weapons, sensors and undersea vehicles for naval special warfare, tactical surveillance operations.
