The Junkers Ju-87D-5 Stuka was a late-war variant of Germanys iconic dive bomber, adapted for ground attack missions on the Eastern Front. Retaining the Stukas signature gull wings and precision dive-bombing capabilities, the D-5 featured improved armor protection, a longer wingspan, and two underwing-mounted 20mm MG 151/20 cannons for strafing runs against Soviet troops and vehicles. Powered by a Junkers Jumo 211J engine, the D-5 was slower than contemporary aircraft but made up for it with brutal accuracy and psychological impact€especially when equipped with the infamous wailing Jericho Trumpet sirens. Though increasingly vulnerable to enemy fighters by 1943, the Ju-87D-5 remained a feared battlefield support aircraft, particularly in anti-tank operations when paired with shaped-charge bombs or later tank-busting variants.
