The 747-8 is 5.6 meters longer than the previous Boeing 747-400 and has a maximum take-off weight of 442 tons. The wings have significantly improved aerodynamics and newly designed wingtips. Additionally the aircraft offers noticeable improvements in efficiency: the Gent GEnx-2B engines consume less fuel (about 20%) and achieve a significantfuel efficiency and CO2 emission per passenger improvement of 15%. Noise emissions are also reduced by 30%. The new Lufthansa Jumbo offers seating for a total of 362 passengers and entered regular service in June 2012.
